We're roughly half-way through the summer season here in the DWRL! So far, we've seen some of the biggest fields and most competitive races in our history, and a lot of new and different names have gone to victory lane.
Although the fields are relatively small in our rookies-only No-Champs series, some heated battles have happened in both the dirt and pavement classes with some impressive wins by Bill Pedalo, Kiboe Munro, Hemilover Socke, and Ffred Koolhoven so far this season. With the 'newest' of these rookie drivers (Saphyre Cyberstar) climbing up to third in the pavement class, we may see a new face in victory lane soon.
The Pure Stocks have been a grab bag made of crazy so far, with several different winners. Track length and shape really seem to change up the finishing orders, but so far Urantia Jewell has been the most consistent. Can he hold on?
Redline Racing's Kato Kendrick has been on a roll in Dirt Modified this season, managing to hold onto a 10 point lead over hard-charging Kandy Tomorrow, who certainly knows her way around the tracks on this circuit. With Focke Rau, Caz Freschi, Jewell, and a host of other hungry drivers looking for a win this season, these two drivers have some tricky waters to navigate.
In TROO, this season began as the Mishi Rossini show. Taking a page from his team mate Tomorrow's playbook, he cruised to several wins in this class, only to be devastated on the short track at Northstar. Rossini now clings to a mere 2 point lead over Kendrick, who has charged to the front of the pack the last few races.
On the pavement side of things, Kendrick has pitched a near-perfect season in what has proven to be a chaotic street stock season. Three hungry drivers, (two of which are former Street Stock Champions) are nipping at his heels. Rau, Freschi, and Jewell. With these drivers all starting at the rear of the field every week, their leads may be shrinking!
So far, the Pro Trucks have all been about the #88 Kendrick engines machine of RedLine Racing's Kato Kendrick. He's taken home first place in every event so far, but keeping close to the podium in every week, and only 20 points down is Local Dog Racing's Focke Rau, who has qualified on the pole for a few of these races, and is looking to dethrone Kendrick as the season wears on. Freschi, Jewell, and Rossini are all hungry for wins, too. Can Kendrick hold on all season?
Lastly, but certainly not least, the Country Stocks have had a wild, wild fourth season. First time winners (Koolhoven among them, has scored two wins thus far) and strong performances from 'rookie' drivers (Rossini sits second, Freschi fourth in their first seasons) have made things look pretty bleak for last season's 'big three' (Kendrick, Rau, and Tsukuba Ming) -- so far, only Kendrick and Ming have won of the 3 winners last season, and all three drivers have finished well out of the top 5 in at least one race. This means the points battle is very tight, and will only get tighter as we head to Falconer Raceway next week.
